The two days 44th Convocation of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad concluded today at the Penman Auditorium of the institute with award of degrees to altogether 865 pass outs of the 2023-24.
The inaugural day function witnessed the felicitation of Prof. Prem Vrat, Chairman, BoG, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The concluding day function was held in two sessions, including session one during which degrees were awarded to
altogether 447 passouts of B Tech and session 2 during which degrees were awarded to altogether 418 students of B Tech as well as Dual degree, Integrated M Tech and M Tech.
Prof. Prem Vrat Chairman, BoG IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, while addressing the gathering comprising of degree recipients, their family members, senate members etc. said, Dear Graduands, today, we celebrate not just your academic achievements but also the spirit of perseverance and growth that defines the students of IIT(ISM). Let me take a moment to reflect on the illustrious legacy of this institution. Founded in 1926, IIT(ISM) has stood as a beacon of excellence, contributing immensely to the fields of engineering, earth sciences, and technology. It has been a home to brilliant minds, many of whom have gone on to lead transformative changes in academia, industry, and
society at large” “Dream big, for the world belongs to those who dare to dream. But dreaming alone is not enough. Translate those dreams into actionable goals.
Set milestones and work relentlessly to achieve them. Remember, your aim should not only be about personal success but also to contribute to the greater good of society” added Prof. Prem Vrat.
Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad during his address gave details of the award of degrees; academics, R&D achievement; International collaborations; alumni affairs; ongoing infrastructure development
works in the institute; and ranking and other highlights of the institute.
Regarding the recent developments regarding rankings he said, “In the QS Sustainability Rankings 2024, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has performed impressively as it stood 7th in IITs as compared to last year” “IIT(ISM) ushered in its 99th Foundation Day with pride a week ago on December 9; all set for the centenary
celebrations which will culminate in February 2027 with the alumni fest-BASANT” further said Prof. Mishra.
“Friends, with its huge talent pool and strong alumni base, IIT(ISM) is uniquely positioned to contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat. I see immense potential in this institute; with its expertise in natural resource management and energy it can lead initiatives in renewable energy, decarbonization, and environmental sustainability. These efforts will directly support India’s goals for a green economy. I am committed to playing a true captain’s role in taking this idea forward” concluded Prof. Mishra.
On day one on Monday Padma Bhushan, Vijay Kumar Saraswat, member, NITI Aayog was chief guest of the function and delivered the convocation day address.
