Three individuals were arrested for firing outside the house of an ice cream businessman in Prakashnagar. The police have identified the accused as Rohit Lohar alias God Baba, Gaurav Goswami, and Aman Mahato. Acting swiftly, the police recovered a country-made pistol used in the crime, marking a major breakthrough in the case.
On the evening of November 17, the tranquility of Prakashnagar was disrupted when three assailants arrived on a bike and opened fire outside the house of Naveen Singh, a local businessman known for his ice cream enterprise. The bullet, shot at close range, pierced the iron door of Naveen’s house and lodged into the wall, leaving residents shaken. A spent shell was recovered from the scene, confirming the use of live ammunition.
The incident came to light when Naveen, initially mistaking the sound for a firecracker, noticed the damage to his property and found the bullet casing. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the chilling reality unfolded, showing the three culprits firing before fleeing the scene.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishore Kaushal revealed during a press conference on Wednesday that the attack stemmed from a prior incident involving one of the accused, Rohit Lohar. Rohit, a former employee of Naveen Singh, was allegedly caught stealing from his employer some time ago. Naveen, while detaining Rohit and handing him over to the police, chose not to file a formal complaint. This allowed Rohit to walk free, but the incident left a lingering grudge that ultimately escalated into the firing.
SSP Kaushal explained: "The accused planned the attack as an act of revenge against Naveen Singh. This underscores the dangers of unresolved disputes and the importance of reporting crimes, no matter how minor they may seem."
Following the incident, Naveen alerted the Govindpur police, who immediately began their investigation. The detailed probe, aided by CCTV footage, led to the identification and arrest of the accused within days. The police recovered the weapon based on the accused’s confession, bolstering the case against them.
Naveen Singh, whose business involves distributing ice cream across Jamshedpur, had been dealing with a string of thefts targeting his delivery vehicles. Just days before the firing, he had managed to catch some thieves red-handed. While he believed the thefts to be unrelated to the firing, the cumulative stress has left him and his family on edge."I never imagined such an act of violence would follow an old incident," Naveen shared. "We are grateful to the police for their swift action, but the fear lingers. What if they had targeted my family?"
