Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena distributed appointment letters for enrolment of home guard to 1,669 volunteers, who have been selected following due recruitment process. Significantly, of the new appointees, 19 percent are erstwhile Civil Defence Volunteers (CDVs) and 181 are women candidates, a statement from the Raj Niwas read on Wednesday.
Saxena, in January this year, had cleared enrolment of more than 10,285 new home guard personnel and directed that CDVs be given preference by way of extra credits in the selection. This was done to provide alternate employment opportunities to CDVs, who were terminated at the behest of the then chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in November, 2023.
The LG had issued directions to squeeze the timeline for selection and asked for the process to be completed at the earliest.
However, following the advertisement for recruitment of these 10,285 home guards, several candidates had gone to court, which resulted in appointment to 7,939 posts pended the final outcome of two court cases.
Saxena had then directed for immediate appointment of 2,346 home guards, who qualified their Physical Measurement and Efficiency Test (PMET) and written test, underlining that the remaining could be filled once the court decisions came.
The LG had also directed that a dedicated medical camp be organised within one-week for the medical tests of the qualified candidates and subsequently letters of appointment be handed over to them at the earliest.
