Wednesday, 21 February 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

In an effort to combat leprosy and create a positive impact, Tata Motors and Nav Jagrat Manav Samaj (NJMS) are leading the charge in Jamshedpur. NJMS, a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing and controlling leprosy, has been quietly making a significant difference in the lives of countless individuals, thanks to the unwavering support of Tata Motors.

NJMS, with over 500 local volunteers, including Tata Motors employees and like-minded philanthropists, has achieved substantial milestones in reducing the incidence of leprosy in Jamshedpur and its surrounding areas. The organization has been instrumental in addressing various aspects, such as health, education, employability, and livelihood initiatives.

An annual door-to-door survey conducted by NJMS reaches 75,000 people for early leprosy detection. In just three years, reported cases in Jamshedpur have plummeted from 1.5 to 0.5 persons per 1000, showcasing the effectiveness of their proactive approach. Operating Antyoday Bhawan, NJMS provides free medical care, boarding, and lodging to over 4000 leprosy patients. The organization also extends support to children's education and livelihood initiatives.

Tata Motors' pivotal support plays a crucial role in propelling NJMS's impactful work in leprosy prevention. This collaboration has resulted in a significant decrease in leprosy incidence, transforming lives not only in Jamshedpur but beyond.

Vinod Kulkarni, CSR Head at Tata Motors, emphasized the commendable efforts of NJMS, stating, "Nav Jagrat Manav Samaj embodies the true essence of compassion and resilience in their unwavering commitment to eradicating leprosy and empowering individuals affected by this disease. Tata Motors is humbled to support NJMS in this noble endeavor, recognizing their invaluable contribution to creating a leprosy-free society. Through collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication, we believe in fostering a future where every individual, regardless of their health challenges, can lead a life of dignity and inclusion.”
