Acting against those vitiating the city air, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday said it had taken action against an errant builder for failing to cover civil work and also promised stringent measures against eateries and wedding venues persisting with the use of solid fuels.
The action comes in the wake of a major surge in city AQI levels over the weekend. In a brief released to the media on Tuesday, the civic body said it levied a spot fine of Rs 4,000 on an ongoing civil project at Nehru Nagar as it was not covered by green nets as prescribed by the municipal body.
Separately, the civic body also said it would take strict action with fines against the operators of hotels, restaurants, marriage gardens, and carts for using unauthorised fuel in tandoors or engaging in open biomass burning. The decision was first taken at a meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Singh on October 22.
