In a significant ruling, Principal District Judge Nalin Kumar has sentenced six individuals to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of Bablu Ram, a resident of Tandwa village, situated near the Sadar police station. The convicted men, identified as Roshan Kumar, Shambhu Ram, Sujeet alias Bhaklu Ram, Dashrath Ram, Nandlal Ram, and Abhiraj Ram, have also been ordered to pay a fine of ₹50,000.
The tragic incident unfolded on 6 March 2023, when local resident Suraj Ram discovered a commotion while returning from work. Upon investigation, he witnessed Roshan Kumar, from Shakti Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, and his accomplices verbally abusing Bablu Ram.
The aggressors accused Bablu Ram's parents of engaging in witchcraft, attributing their daughter-in-law's ill health to their alleged malevolent practices, including claims of using magic to kill pigs. In a fit of rage, Roshan Kumar launched a knife attack on Bablu Ram, who attempted to defend himself. During the chaos, several others in the vicinity were also injured.
Following the assault, the perpetrators fled the scene, while local villagers rushed the wounded, including Bablu Ram, to Sadar Hospital. Tragically, Bablu succumbed to his injuries en route.
The court's verdict was reached after examining testimonies from 12 witnesses, along with a post-mortem report and other pertinent documentation. The six men were convicted under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, resulting in life sentences and the financial penalty of Rs. 50,000.
