Delhi Tourism Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Tuesday inaugurated the annual two-day Shahpur Jat Festival in Greater Kailash, stating that such events provide opportunity for the younger generation to connect with civilization and traditions.
Addressing the event, Tourism Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Such programmes should continue so that the heritage and customs passed down by our elders remain alive in the hearts of future generations. This ensures that our youth can pass on this rich culture to the generations to come.”
He added, “The primary objective behind organising this two-day Shahpur Jat Festival is to preserve and promote the legacy and traditions of our ancestors, ensuring they remain vibrant for centuries to come.”
Delhi Government’s Tourism Department organised the annual two-day Shahpur Jat which will run on till Wednesday from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm.The event features Haryanvi folk dances, Ragini performances, stand-up comedy, magic shows, puppet plays, and a traditional ramp walk showcasing Haryana’s cultural attire. The highlight of the festival is the performances by renowned singers Ajay Hooda and Ruchika Jangid.
As the name suggests, Shahpur Jat is a village predominantly inhabited by the Jat community. Keeping the local preferences in mind, the Delhi Tourism Department has curated performances that celebrate Haryana’s rich cultural heritage, including Ragini, Haryanvi music, and folk dances.
In addition to the vibrant performances, the event also features food stalls offering a wide range of Haryanvi delicacies alongside other traditional Indian dishes. Visitors can savour these diverse culinary offerings while enjoying the cultural showcase.
