Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday hailed the workers and supporters, who staged a peaceful demonstration across the country to protest against the alleged disrespect shown to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, however, claimed that the demonstration is not a permanent solution to the problem, but the Bahujans should come forward and hold the key to power to overcome their trauma.
“Today, all the officials, workers of BSP, and all those followers of the most revered Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar across the country are deeply grateful and thankful to those who organised a peaceful and successful dharna-demonstration at all the district headquarters against the disrespect of Baba Saheb by Amit Shah,” Mayawati posted on the social media platform X.
“If the anti-Baba Saheb remarks are not taken back and repented, then such demonstrations etc, organised on the call of BSP, are not a permanent solution to the problem. Rather, for this, the Bahujans will have to become capable of their own salvation by becoming the ruling class, by getting the master key of power; only then liberation and respect are possible,” she further said.
“Today’s successful movement proves that whether it is BJP, Congress, or any other party, Hindustan will not tolerate the insult of Baba Saheb. In fact, it is necessary to implement Baba Saheb’s Constitution with full devotion and honesty for the ‘achche din’ of the people, i.e, for the creation of a country with public interest and public welfare,” she elaborated.
In her last post, Mayawati said that the destruction of Dr Ambedkar’s statue in Ahmedabad and the lynching of a Dalit in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, is extremely sad and shameful.
“If that poor man is accused of stealing rice, then is he not one of the millions of people suffering from poverty and hunger? The government must support such people,” she added.
It may be mentioned that as per the pre-scheduled programme, BSP workers protested across the state on Tuesday.
There is anger in BSP over Home Minister Amit Shah’s remark on Dr Ambedkar.
Lucknow, BSP workers demonstrated at the Hazratganj intersection and demanded that Shah should tender an apology or resign from his post.
In Ayodhya, BSP workers, led by state president Vishwanath Pal, staged a sit-in protest at Tikunia Park and asked Shah to apologise.
Pal said that the home minister has insulted the God of Bahujan Samaj.
“Mayawati has already asked the kome minister through X to apologise to the Bahujan Samaj. But, he has not apologised yet. Mayawati also asked him to apologise for his wrong comment by holding a press conference, but still, the BJP government has not responded,” Pal said.
“This country is running with the Constitution made by Dr Ambedkar, but those who run the country are insulting Baba Saheb. If the home minister does not apologise, the Bahujan Samaj Party will protest across the country. The home minister has insulted our God. He should apologise,” Pal asserted.
BSP workers also protested against Shah in Ambedkar Nagar. The workers first gathered in large numbers on Baskhari Marg at the district headquarters. After this, they marched with placards and banners in their hands.
The BSP workers, raising slogans against Amit Shah, demanded his dismissal from the cabinet and resignation.
The procession of workers marched near the Collectorate. It was said in the meeting held there that the BJP is continuously working against great men and the Constitution.
During this, former MP Ghanshyam Chandra Kharwar, district president Sunil Sawant, and mandal coordinator Arvind Gautam, etc, were present.
