Seminar on ‘Cyber enabled human trafficking’ organised

A daylong seminar on the topic "Cyber Enabled Human Trafficking" was organized by the Women Safety Branch at Police Headquarters, Bhopal on Friday.

In this seminar organized in collaboration with Prajwala Sanstha, methods of human trafficking were discussed using technology and how to control them.

ADG Cyber Cell Yogesh Deshmukh said that the use of technology is making people's lives convenient, but it cannot be denied that it is also a threat to them. People involved in human trafficking consider the use of technology to be safer. He is clever in using technology and easily traps citizens. Madhya Pradesh Police is continuously preventing human trafficking by preparing strategies based on the database of such criminals.

In this seminar organized under the guidance of ADG of Women Security Branch Pragya Richa Srivastava, IG of Women Security Branch Himani Khanna, AIG  Kiranlata Kerkatta, AIG Pratibha Tripathi, AIG Pinky Jeevani, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mahila Police Station. In-charge, GRP station in-charge and cyber police officer were present. The operation was conducted by AIG Virendra Mishra of Women Safety Branch.

Prajwala's Project Advisor Dr. Sunitha Krishnan said that the accused involved in human trafficking use technology to mislead the victims or lure them into exploitation. This is happening not only with women and children but also with men.

Prajjwala team's project coordinator Swasti Rana said that the use of technology for human trafficking has increased. In fact, mobile phones reached the hands of children for online classes, taking advantage of which human traffickers started preying on children.

Prajwala's research officer Tabish Ahsan said that people are misled and pushed towards human trafficking through social media. Among these, women and girls who feel lonely are especially the targets of human traffickers. He told that after understanding the feelings of such women through social media, they are first befriended and by promising to support them throughout their life, they are made victims of human trafficking.

Prajjwala's cyber expert Lieutenant Colonel Vijay Kishore Jha said that human traffickers trap people through social media sites, job providing websites, online games and dating sites etc. He gave information about how human trafficking can be controlled using online mediums.

Prajwala's legal expert Adira Srinivasan gave examples of three international cases of human trafficking. He told that in most of such cases people are trapped by promising to make them rich quickly. Many times the entire family falls into the trap. He reported on cases of exploitation in Austria, the United States, and human trafficking in Indonesia for organ trafficking.
