Routine immunisation suffers due to rains

Sunday, 04 August 2024 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Routine immunisation limped today in the wake of the heavy rains in Palamu. Routine immunisation was done at the MMCH, all the 10 community health centres, primary health centres etc.

It was a late starter for two reasons. First the concerned immunising team had to wait for rains to subside.

Second, the parents brought their wards when it was drizzling only. Outreach in difficult areas for the immunisation was deferred to Monday, said civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar.

Civil surgeon said "By this evening we will be in a position to have data on the numbers of kids immunised today. But one thing is certain. Our immunisation team braved the rains and performed the task albeit less in numbers, for reasons of rains and difficult movement on the roads."

Although till this mid noon only 80.6 mm of the rainfall has been recorded in Palamu, panic and fear about rains was multi fold high.

Under orders of the chief minister Hemant Soren all government and private schools were closed for the day today Saturday.

State disaster management authorities too issued alert for the rains.

The result was that everyone began talking about 'disaster coming' instead of how to save oneself or how to fight it.

The Medininagar municipal corporation on Friday evening appealed to public at the bank of the river Koyel to be on alert as river Koyel may become turbulent any time.

Lower areas of the town Daltonganj like Pahari mohalla were inundated like every heavy rains every year.

The water receding time here is 4 to 5 hours.

The town Daltonganj is a highly undulating type surface where water logging is for a shorter duration than surface where it's plain and exit to water is unavailable.

A big snake was found lying exhausted on the bank of the river Koyel near the Giriwar high school. The snake is believed to be a water travel fatigue one as despite commotion by onlookers it lied passive! It didn't raise its head at any one nor did it pose any aggressive stance.
