Railway on Sunday, with the help of district administration, removed encroachment from railway land situated on Bypass Road. Amidst the protest of encroachers, RPF and district administration team demolished more than 75 illegal houses on Sunday.
Bypass road remained jammed during encroachment removal. Earlier on Saturday also, administration had launched encroachment free campaign, in which 117 illegal shops, houses and huts were demolished with bulldozer. In this way, 200 families became homeless in the campaign which lasted for two days.
Railway had given notice a month ago. Administration had announced to remove encroachment on Friday evening.
People living here for more than 20 years started crying on seeing their homes being destroyed. Due to encroachment, their homes were destroyed in one stroke. Goods are also lying scattered on the side of the roads. Some of these people left with their belongings in search of a new home. While some are sitting there worried.
The affected families say that they have not found a house on rent anywhere, until some arrangement is made, they are forced to live on the road. They have appealed to the government for help.
Railway's Senior Section Engineer Line Praful Bada said that the old overbridge at Birsa Chowk has to be demolished and a new bridge has to be built. "The new bridge will be built at a cost of about Rs 15 crore. It has been targeted to be completed in two years. Apart from this, two additional railway lines will be laid under the new bridge and it will be connected to the yard," he added.
A railway bridge was built seven years ago. Through which traffic moves from HEC towards Birsa Chowk and Hinu. But due to the narrowness of the old bridge, there is a situation of jam.
