Punjab Gears Up for Mega PTM Today: Over 20L Parents Likely to Participate

Tuesday, 22 October 2024 | Monika Malik | Chandigarh

A transformative day awaits Punjab’s education system as over 20 lakh parents are set to participate in a Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) across 20,000 government schools on Tuesday (October 22).

What makes this grand event truly special is the involvement of all Ministers and MLAs, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann personally set to visit one of the schools. This landmark event will bring together parents, teachers, Ministers, MLAs, and the newly-elected panchayats — all united in their mission to enhance the quality of education and ensure holistic development for students.

With Chief Minister Mann set to lead the initiative, the PTM is expected to spark meaningful conversations about academic performance, school infrastructure, and future strategies, making it a pivotal moment in shaping the state's educational landscape.

The state’s School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced that the Mega PTM will be conducted from 9 am to 2:30 pm across all government primary and upper primary schools in Punjab. “The event has been designed to create a meaningful dialogue between teachers and parents, enabling both sides to collaborate on strategies to improve students’ academic performance and personal development,” he said.

Emphasizing the importance of this interaction, Bains explained that the PTM provides a platform for parents to voice concerns, offer suggestions, and receive comprehensive updates on their children’s educational progress.

One of the key highlights of the meeting will be the presentation of the September examination results. “Teachers will share detailed insights into individual student performances, addressing areas of improvement while also acknowledging students’ achievements. This open discussion is expected to help parents gain a clearer understanding of their children’s academic journey and offer an avenue for them to contribute to further improvements,” a senior official of Education Department shared with The Pioneer.

In addition to academic discussions, the PTM will serve as an opportunity for parents to evaluate the school facilities. The official said that the Punjab Government has been steadily working on upgrading its education infrastructure, and parents will get a firsthand look at these changes.

Minister Bains pointed out that the introduction of ‘Campus Managers’, improved security measures, modernized classrooms, laboratories, state-of-the-art playgrounds, and better transportation services are among the initiatives being showcased during the event.

The Schools of Eminence program, which aims to provide high-quality education to students across the state, will also be highlighted as part of the broader educational reforms under Chief Minister Mann’s leadership.

This year’s Mega PTM holds special significance as it extends an invitation to the newly-elected panchayats to actively participate — virtually strengthening the link between schools and local communities.

Bains said that the panchayats play a vital role in maintaining school facilities, such as ensuring clean playgrounds and addressing infrastructure needs, which directly impact students’ day-to-day experiences at school.

The previous ‘Mega PTM’, held in 2022, saw the participation of 19 lakh parents, and this year’s turnout is expected to surpass that number, with over 20 lakh parents anticipated. This large-scale participation is a testament to the growing awareness among parents about the importance of staying involved in their children’s education, said Bains.

By attending the PTM, parents are not only receiving updates but also contributing to the development of Punjab’s schools and their children’s futures.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's participation in the event underscored the government’s focus on improving the education sector. His administration has been pushing for reforms aimed at elevating both the academic and infrastructural standards of schools across Punjab. The Mega PTM is one such initiative that aligns with the state’s broader goal of creating an inclusive and dynamic educational environment where teachers, parents, and community leaders work hand-in-hand.

As parents, teachers, and community leaders gather for this significant meeting, the focus will be on ensuring that every child in Punjab has access to a nurturing, well-resourced learning environment. With over 27 lakh students enrolled in government schools, this Mega PTM aims to empower families and educators to collaborate in shaping a brighter, more promising future for the next generation.
