The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Superintendent of Police, Mayurbhanj to ensure necessary assistance including providing all relevant reports to parents of the minor victims who were raped by police. The NHRC also directed the SP to enable them to apply under Rule 9, POCSO Rules, 2020, and other applicable victim compensation schemes, for monetary relief. 

Acting on a petition filed by advocate and rights activist RadhakantaTripathy, the NHRC passed the order. In the petition, he alleged that two police personnel of Jamda in Mayurbhanj district are involved in connection with two rape cases. The accused police personnel are an assistant sub-inspector of police and a home guard.

The ASI was involved in sexually assaulting a minor girl who worked as a domestic help in his house. The ASI engaged the minor girl to take care of his three children after the death of his wife. The minor girl's aunt recently filed a complaint at the Jamda police station alleging that he had developed sexual relations with the girl promising to marry her. The home guard, who pretended as a witch doctor, raped the minor girl from West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on the pretext of curing the ailing family member.

Tripathy requested for independent investigation of both the cases, legal action against the accused police, psycho-social rehabilitation of the victims and heavy compensation to both of the victims. In response, the Superintendent of Police, Mayurbanj, submitted an action taken report dated 10.11.2023 wherein it was submitted that on complaint of mother of one victim girl in connection with rape by ASI AnandaMajhi, a case vide Jamda PS Case No. 83 dated 16.10.2023 u/s 363/376 (2)(n) IPC was registered.The accused ASI was arrested and sent to JC. Similarly, in the other case, the accused home guard was arrested and forwarded to court.
