Delhi Congress on Sunday said that the BJP Government should be ashamed of the fact that the Pragati Maidan tunnel, constructed at a whopping cost of `777 crore, and which the Prime Minister inaugurated with much fanfare, has now turned out to be a monument of shame, as a year after it’s inauguration, the tunnel has become a “potential threat” to commuters. He said after the glamour of G20, Pragati Maidan Tunnel is now going to prove dangerous for the passengers.
Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely on Sunday said that the tunnel was the finest example of the “amritkaal” of the corrupt under the BJP rule, as flawed design and hasty construction of the tonnel, has made it unusable and dangerous. He said that if a prestigious, Centrally-funded project could be so recklessly executed under the very nose of the BJP Government in the national Capital, what would be the fate of such projects elsewhere in the country?
Lovely said that after squandering hundreds of crores of rupees of tax payers money for the construction of the Pragati tunnel, the Public Works Department of Delhi, which was given the job to execute the project, which in turn engaged L&T for the work, was now engaged in a mutual blame games while the commuters suffer. He wondered if there was a design flaw in the project, why wasn’t it detected before the construction work began?
