The CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) hosted a corporate training programme for officials of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) today in the Lecture Hall. The event marked the inaugural session of the Mineral Characterization, Beneficiation, and Agglomeration (MCBA 2024) training programme, running from December 3 to December 5, 2024.
The opening ceremony began with the traditional lamp-lighting by distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML; Dr. Devabrata Mishra, Head of the Mineral Processing Division; Dr. S. Sivaprasad, Chief Scientist and Head of the Human Resource Group; and Dr. Sital Kumar Pal, Head of the RPBD Division.
Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury warmly welcomed the SAIL executives and provided an overview of the programme’s focus, emphasizing the importance of utilizing low-grade and fine ores or minerals for sustainable development. He introduced participants to the journey of mineral characterization and agglomeration, from laboratory experiments to pilot-scale operations.
Dr. Devabrata Mishra highlighted the legacy of the Mineral Processing Division, encouraging participants to leverage CSIR-NML’s research and development facilities and expertise. He emphasized the laboratory’s commitment to providing maximum learning opportunities during the training.
Dr. S. Sivaprasad shared the division’s pioneering contributions to mineral characterization and beneficiation since its inception. He elaborated on CSIR-NML’s dedication to organizing skill-development initiatives tailored for executives in the corporate sector.
Dr. Sital Kumar Pal underscored CSIR-NML’s role in addressing industrial challenges and sought to foster long-term collaborations for business development and knowledge sharing. He encouraged participants to view CSIR-NML as a valuable partner in resolving complex industrial problems.
Over decades, CSIR-NML has established itself as a leader in beneficiation studies for ferrous, non-ferrous, and non-metallic minerals, as well as coal. Its expertise extends beyond national boundaries, contributing to overseas projects as well.
The four-day MCBA 2024 training programme is structured to include: Informative lecture series by experts. Laboratory visits to explore cutting-edge equipment. Hands-on training in mineral processing and agglomeration techniques.
