To mitigate air pollution in the New Delhi area, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has deployed a fleet of 08 anti smog gun on all its avenue roads on hiring basis. The move will help to strengthen anti- pollution efforts and make the environment more livable in the NDMC area. These Smog Guns are GPS enabled and will be operating on main roads of the New Delhi area from 0800 hrs to 1600 hrs. These smog guns covered 360 km roads, lanes on a per day basis.
The hiring cost of these guns amounts to 2.87 crore for a two-year period. Each gun is operated by a team comprising one HMV driver, one operator, and one helper.
The guns are mounted on CNG-operated trucks with a water tank capacity of 7000 liters, they have horizontal water throwing distance of 30 meters, 330-degree rotation in the horizontal plane, and 60-degree tilting in the vertical plane, they are also capable of atomizing water droplets ranging from 10 to 30 microns through 24 stainless steel nozzles.
Despite their performance, these Smog Guns maintain an eco-friendly approach with a water consumption of 1500 liters per hour each. Additionally, they serve as a platform for displaying environmental awareness messages.
Earlier NDMC has already deployed Anti-Smog Gun mounted on 28 Ton CNG truck chassis of Tata make with the largest water tank capacity of 17000 liter for mitigating air pollution. Due to large water tank capacity, this anti-smog gun has a continuous runtime of three hours non-stop water supplying for spray reducing dead mileage.
Furthermore, a mist spray machine has been procured and deployed at Pt. Pant Marg in the NDMC area. Additionally, four Mechanical Road Sweepers (MRS) work in two shifts to deep clean road channels covering approximately 350 kilometers of roads daily.
18 water tankers/trolleys ranging from 5000 to 10000 liters have been deployed for sprinkling STP-treated water on trees and shrubs along main roads to ensure the maintenance of greenery.
