A classical music drama ‘Baiju Bawra’ performed by a group of passionate young artists of Chanderi at the Tribal Museum.

The grand theatrical performance centred on the renowned musician, Baiju Bawra. This theatrical production featuring over 50 young artists was culmination of a 45-day training program conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board.

The performance will blend various storytelling techniques, offering a unique and immersive experience.Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture Department and Managing Director Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board Sheo Shekhar Shukla said “this cultural extravaganza showcased Madhya Pradesh Tourism Boards ongoing efforts to introduce tourists to the exciting experiences of community-based tourism in the state under the guidance of Tourism, Culture and Religious Trusts and Endowments Minister (Independent Charge) Shri Dharmendra Bhav Singh Lodhi.

The initiative aims to preserve cultural heritage, promote tourism and celebrate the life and music of Baiju Bawra. Notably as a part of our endeavours to empower local youth, children of weavers from Chanderi were given 45-day training.

‘Baiju Bawra’ transported audiences to a bygone era, celebrating the life and music of the iconic Baiju Bawra. The classical musical drama depicted his story of becoming extraordinary musician, performing at the court of Akbar in front of his nav-ratna, the story behind adding ‘Bawra’ in his name and finally when Tansen hugged Baiju Bawra and blessed him, the crowd broke into applause.

Notably, the seeds of theater have been sown in the city of Chanderi renowned for rich heritage, exquisite textiles for the first time. Chanderi is also popular film shooting location - most recently for the blockbuster 'Stree 2' - Chanderi has always been a city of artistic expression.

India’s first craft handloom tourism village Pranpur has gained national recognition, and its local women-run handloom café has carved a unique niche for itself. The musical drama was a cultural treat, offering a glimpse into the rich history and artistic heritage of state.

Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board is continually putting efforts to bring this historic city to limelight. It's the first time a theatre workshop of this scale has been organized in Chanderi. This initiative undertaken by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board aims to connect the local youth with the tourism industry. As these young talents will not only introduce tourists to Chanderi's rich history, iconic characters, and unique tourism experiences but will also serve as tourism ambassadors and promote the state's cultural heritage.
