Great works in any field don't go unrecognized. This outgoing year the MMCH was saved from a tragedy which no nitizen would have ever forgotten.
Eight infants could not have survived had four good souls not acted wise and prompt. Today was the day of honouring them. It was an honour from the civil surgeon Palamu Dr Anil Kumar.
Civil Surgeon Palamu Dr Anil Kumar felicitated Two GNMs (general nursing midwifery), one ward boy and one paediatrician here on Saturday.
Each of the 4 were given one shawl, one memento, a letter of appreciation from the district health society and a packet of sweets.
The recipients of the honour today were Mamta Trishul (GNM), Dayani Oriya (GNM), Ravi Kumar (ward boy) and Gaurav Vishal (paediatrician).
These 4 had saved 8 infants in the SNCU ward 1 on the night of December 14 between 1.30 am to 1.45am.
The high flow nasal c pap (yes pap) machine with which 4 infants were attached to, had explosion and fire. Lives of these 4 were in imminent danger.
It was GNM Mamta Trishul who took all the 4 infants in her lap and ran down the stairs from 4th floor to the second floor based post natal ward crying fire fire help help. There were 4 more left there in the SNCU ward 1 the place of occurrence.
By that time oxygen supply was put off. The lives of the remaining 4 were equally in jeopardy. The two GNMs and ward boy rescued them and reached them in the post natal ward of the second floor.
The pediatrician Gaurav Vishal monitored the status of health of all the 8 with clinical precision.
Mamta Trishul said, "Rescue was done fast but for us supply of oxygen to these 8 was far far more important. Any delay in deliverance of the oxygen could have brought in a pall of gloom."
All went too fine which no one had thought of said the civil surgeon Palamu Dr Anil Kumar.
"No word can describe you people's magic of saving lives. It was a miracle that all of you performed." added the civil surgeon.
Mamta Trishul came to this correspondent with tears in her eyes saying "You were the first journalist who reached us in the SNCU ward 1 which had the smell of fire. Your newspaper encouraged us. I can't forget it."
Civil surgeon said "Today in this felicitation ceremony I want to request parents and attendants not to make any forced entry into the SNCU ward or any other ward like that of gyaenic, surgery and that too with shoes on. It will harm your loved ones in the bed there. "
