In a significant breakthrough against the drug trade, Chaibasa police have recovered a staggering 2100 kg of doda from the river bank near Pariya village in the Tebo police station area. The recovered doda, a form of opium poppy, has an estimated market value of ₹3.15 crores.
Doda is often called "the poor man's heroin" because it's a narcotic derived from the same plant: the opium poppy. The drug is produced by grinding up dried poppy pods and then using the powder either to make a tea or simply stirring it into a glass or cold water.
According to the information received, Chaibasa Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashutosh Shekhar acted on a tip-off about a large quantity of doda being stored on the river bank near Pariya village. Responding swiftly, SP Shekhar formed a raiding party to investigate the matter.
The operation was carried out on the night of June 1. The raiding team conducted a meticulous search along the banks of the Chaki river. During the operation, they discovered 83 plastic bags filled with doda hidden among the bushes on the river bank. The prompt action of the police prevented the doda from being transported to its intended destination.
SP Shekhar, while briefing the media on Sunday, stated, "The doda was stored here with the intent of transporting it to another location. Our timely intervention has successfully disrupted this illegal activity."
The SP commended the raiding team for their swift and effective action. He emphasized that such operations are crucial in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the region. "This seizure is a significant step in our efforts to curb the drug menace in Chaibasa. We will continue to act decisively against those involved in such illegal activities," he added.
The operation involved a coordinated effort by multiple police personnel who worked through the night to secure the contraband. The recovered doda has been taken into police custody and further investigations are underway to identify the individuals involved in this large-scale drug operation.
Local residents have expressed their relief and gratitude towards the police for their proactive measures in ensuring the safety and security of the community. The successful raid has reinforced public confidence in the local law enforcement agencies.
Authorities have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help in the fight against drug trafficking. The police have assured that the identity of informers will be kept confidential.
This substantial seizure of doda underscores the persistent efforts by the Chaibasa police to combat drug trafficking in the region. With continuous vigilance and community support, law enforcement agencies aim to create a drug-free environment for the residents of Chaibasa.
As investigations proceed, the police remain committed to unearthing the network behind this operation and bringing the culprits to justice. The raid marks a significant victory in the region's ongoing battle against illegal narcotics.
