Former finance minister and secretary of Samajwadi Party Kamal Kant Gautam, hurt by the humiliation of Swami Prasad Maurya, resigned from the primary membership of the party.
Maurya, who was national general secretary of the SP, had recently resigned from the party post, alleging discrimination.
In a letter addressed to party president Akhilesh Yadav, the former finance minister said, “I am hurt by the discrimination against Swami Prasad Maurya, and I am tendering my resignation from the primary membership of the party.”
“I am a defunct office-bearer of the Samajwadi Party as for the last over five years no work or any political assignment has been given to me by the party,” Gautam said in his letter.
Gautam had joined the Samajwadi Party in 2019 and was later appointed secretary of the party.
Gautam, an ex-MLC, was finance minister in the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party government. In 2019, he joined the Samajwadi Party and also merged his Bahujan Utthan Party with the SP.
