Elevate Your Dining Experience with Innovative Flavours

Step into Kamei in South Delhi, where modern Asian flavours take centre stage. With a menu that blends classic dishes and creative cocktails, this restaurant offers a delicious escape. Whether you’re dining with friends or enjoying a solo meal, you’re in for an unforgettable experience

If you have a penchant for world class modern Asian Cuisine, then the newly launched ‘Kamei - Modern Asian Restaurant & Cocktail Bar’ in the heart of South Delhi is the perfect answer.

On a rainy afternoon I stepped into a sophisticated space, the ambience inviting, vibrant and luxurious. Origami installation, inspired Bamboo weave in sleek furniture, classy furnishings, meticulously crafted to perfection. The live-edged tables, curved walls and the lighting pay homage to the fluidity of the Asian waters. The space is a confluence of inspired Japanese minimalism, earthy materials, and striking silhouettes, juxtaposed with a touch of luxury.

The founders, Vineet and Vanshika Wadhwa, well- known of the acclaimed ‘House of Fio’, bring 15 years of culinary expertise. They are proud to bring minimalism with an inspired stroke of understated luxury, the world of - Kamei. As they say, “Kamei is a storyteller’s journey across East Asia, like a graceful dance of longevity, wisdom and good fortune, the restaurant embodies the spirit of the resolute turtle. It holds a special place in our hearts because we have spent a lot of time in East Asia, through education and work during both our formative years. Launching a restaurant that reflects a cuisine we cherish is incredibly rewarding for both of us. We’ve brought together our strengths from different generations and invested in building a team that shares our vision and values. While our menu is central, every aspect of our brand’s story and design has been thoughtfully crafted. With Delhi embracing meaningful dining experiences, we’re excited to add to the next era of modern dining in India.”

Food Story

Kamei is an alluring insight into a diverse continent and its nuanced food. It’s a tale of fresh, seasonal ingredients, rich flavors and heritage recipes.

Chef Aditya Moitra, the Lead R&D Chef of Fio restaurants, adds; “With Kamei’s menu, we hope to elevate Delhi’s culinary boundaries. The menu broadly spans the East Asian water belt from Japan all the way to Indonesia. I approach traditional culinary techniques as a canvas to play with flavour pairings, and it’s been exciting to bring that thought into Kamei’s curation. “

One look at the menu and it is  easy to realise that it’s a balance of classic traditional dishes juxtaposed with modern experimental ones, across both the food and bar menus. The culinary journey at Kamei pans across the delicious and diverse region of East Asia - primarily China, Japan & Thailand - with inspirations from Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia and Burma too.

The ‘Smalls’ section feature a mix of signature cold plates like ‘Coconut Sea Bass Ceviche’ with a deeply flavourful coriander coconut leche de tigre; the ‘Chilli Tuna Tartare’ with crispy rice cakes which is a combination of spiced tuna and shoyu ponzu; and the ‘Nori Tofu Taco’ is a crisp corn & nori crunchy shell filled with tofu, Hokkaido salsa and a spicy emulsion. In this section, you can also opt for hot options including dimsums, stir-fry plates along with some new innovations in grills like the  Brown Oyster Mushrooms with Miso Butter. In the appetizers, the Garlic Prawns and Roast Pork Belly are best sellers.

Coming to salads, for me, the Spinach in goma dressing was just perfect. And of course, my all time favourite, pomello with tamarind dressing was outstanding. Though I felt, the portions could be more generous.

In the ‘Large’ section, there is a combination of classic curries, dishes from the wok, along with some signatures like the Filipino inspired Adobo Curry, and the Sichuan Seabass Wok. These dishes can be paired with Kamei Fried Rice or Steamed Jasmine Rice for a wholesome meal. I strongly recommend Mushroom Truffle Fried Rice and Yaki Udon, both stand out for their flavour and texture. If you are in a group, look for ‘Sharing Platters’ section which covers dimsums and rolls pretty well.

Keep some space for desserts though they are very light in authentic Asian flavours like Sesame, Matcha, Honeycomb & Yuzu.

The Progressive Bar

The menu, ingredient forward, once again echoes various parts of Asia. The signature drinks are The Citrus Mist -  an innovative blend of Vodka, vivid citrus and floral notes; and Savour Island with Rum, that brings forth nuttiness of toasted sesame and the light sweetness of tropical coconut. Another interesting blend is The Geisha which has Gin, with a hint of Schezwan spices and fruity notes of litchi. For those who appreciate new-age savoury cocktails, ‘Crimson Cure’ a blend of Gin and Campari is a must try.

To Conclude

Whether it is for innovative cocktail menu or culinary preparations that push the boundary of flavours and presentation, Kamei rises to the occasion for a memorable meal with friends and folks, or just yourself!
