Kidney Cancer operated successfully by Laparoscopic method at BNMH

Sunday, 21 January 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

Most of the tumours are curable, but some tumours may lead to risks as they cause serious implication on the health & may even lead to emergency. Recently a patient named Ms Parween Begum, resident of Mango, East Singhbhum was treated with Kidney cancer at BrahmanandaNarayana Multispeciality Hospital, Jamshedpur (BNMH).

Few days back 52 years old  Parween Begum presented at BNMH with a chief complaint of  stomach ache for the last one year. Previously also he underwent treatment for the same by multiple local doctors including physicians & surgeons but was not relieved of his symptoms.

When he reported at BNMH, Tamolia in Surgical Oncology OPD, he was advised on some tests by Dr. Ashish Kumar, (Senior Consultant - Surgical Oncology). The investigation showed that she had a tumor measuring 4- 5 cm at the lower pore of left kidney which was most likely cancerous. Rapid growth of this tumor may involve the damage of other underlying organs. After all the required anesthetic checkups were done she was planned for  Laparoscopic radical nephrectomy.

For the first time in Jamshedpur, this procedure was the  planned on a kidney cancer as said by Dr. Ashish Kumar

Patient was operated by Dr. Ashish Kumar, (Senior Consultant - Surgical Oncology) and by a team of skilled anesthesiologists under the guidance of  Dr. Umesh Prasad. Laparoscopic radical Nephrectomy surgery was done & the whole kidney along with tumour was excised. The surgery took four hours and the left kdney was completely excised in whole. Post-operation Ms. Parween Begum recovered well and her complaints have returned to near normal.

Speaking about the entire process Dr. Ashish Kumar, (Senior Consultant - Surgical Oncology)  said that Patient can take food after the next day of surgery. This surgery has greater advantage than traditional open surgery because of less pain, less blood loss, short length of stay & faster recovery.

Facility Director Vinit Raj said that “our sate- of- the-art facility is equipped with the latest diagnostic & therapeutic technologies to perform advanced surgery with accurate & effective results to our patients. We are committed to deliver compassionate, patient- centred care with a focus on excellence, safety & innovation”
