The suspected rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl has sent shockwaves in Keonjhar district. Police on Saturday sent the minor girl’s body for postmortem to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
The girl’s body was recovered from Talabank village under the Nandipada police station in Keonjhar on Friday.
The victim was a native of Bhadrak district and her village is close to the border of Keonjhar.
According to the father of the victim, the girl went to a relative’s house for a family function on Thursday. She left from the relative’s house but did not reach home. Following which her family could not trace her despite a frantic search.
On Friday morning, her body was found near the village forest. Later, police rushed to the spot and seized the dead body and started a probe with the help of a forensic team.
Investigating Officer of Nandipada police station, Sk Azharuddin said, “A murder case has been lodged. There are no external injuries on the victim’s body. We are yet to get any evidence of rape. After receiving the postmortem report it can be ascertained. The accused would be arrested soon. We are probing some suspects.”
