Karim City College Empowers Students with UN Sustainable Development Goals

Friday, 09 February 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

In a concerted effort to foster awareness about the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and instill a sense of global citizenship, the Department of Mass Communication at Karim City College organized a capacity-building workshop today. The event, held in collaboration with prominent social organizations Nishchay and Rubaru, aimed at educating students on the importance of mutual harmony and coordination among the people of India to achieve the global goals of happiness and peace.

Tarun Kumar from Nishchay organization, serving as the workshop instructor, introduced over 40 Mass Communication students to all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Emphasis was placed on sensitizing participants to societal fractures stemming from differences like religion, caste, and class.

The workshop featured interactive sessions where students were encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussions on various topics related to the SDGs.

Participants were divided into groups, where they passionately presented their views on crucial issues such as quality education, health, poverty, justice, and gender equality.

To deepen understanding, students assumed roles such as disabled individuals, farmers, and villagers, gaining insight into the challenges faced by different segments of society.

A DNA film was screened to convey the message that the source of life for all human beings is the same.

Dr. Neha Tiwari, head of the Mass Communication Department, outlined the purpose of the workshop and assigned students the task of creating a one-page newspaper, which will undergo future review.

College Principal Dr. Mohammad Riaz extended special congratulations to the Mass Communication Department for the success of the workshop.

Dr. Rashmi Kumari from the department was present, along with Sajid Parvez and Shahzeb Parvez, who played pivotal roles in organizing the program.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Neha Tiwari emphasized the need for such workshops to cultivate a holistic understanding of global challenges among the students. The active participation and enthusiasm displayed by the students were commendable, reflecting a commitment to shaping responsible and informed individuals.

The success of this workshop underscores Karim City College's dedication to nurturing socially aware and responsible professionals in the field of Mass Communication. The engaging activities and discussions held during the session are expected to resonate with the students, promoting a deeper understanding of their roles in achieving sustainable development.
