Though late, the Keonjhar district administration has finally come to the rescue of the poor old couple living by the roadside in Keonjhar town after news on their miserable conditions was published in The Pioneer on November 18.
As a first step towards helping the poor family, on the Collector's public grievance hearing day on January 1, a wheel chair was provided to Sukanti Naik (50), wife of Kailash Naik (60), who is physically handicapped and unable to walk without a stick due to operation on her right knee.
When we wanted to know from district Collector Ashish Thackray about constructing a house for the poor old couple, he said that their grievance has been sent to the concerned department and very soon, action will be taken to help the poor landless family as per the Government guidelines.
Meanwhile, former Treasury Officer Manmohan Patra has thanked the Collector for steps taken by the district administration and The Pioneer for highlighting the issue.
