: Keonjhar Fast Track Court Judge Vijay Kumar Mishra on Wednesday, while hearing a 14-year-old minor rape case, sentenced one Vijay Kumar Barik (21) of Nuabeda village under Daitari police station to 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) with a fine of Rs 10,000.

According to the sources, the incident took place in the year 2021. On June 15, 2021 at about 4:30 pm, the victim went to the house of her friend with another friend on a cycle. When she did not return home for a long time, family members started searching for her.

But that night a call came from a phone number saying that the victim was in Brahmanipal. By searching the mobile number in Truecaller, it was found that the phone owner was Vijay. Later, the family members of the victim lodged a written complaint in Daitari police station on June 17.

Based on the complaint, the police rescued the victim from Asami on June 26 and arrested the accused. After hearing the statements of 20 witnesses, the Fast Track Court convicted Vijay in the case and pronounced the judgment. The court also recommended a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim, said special public prosecutor Gyanedra Nath Jena.
