In a surprise move, the Uttar Pradesh government late on Tuesday night shunted out Hapur’s Superintendent of Police Abhishek Verma and attached him to the police headquarters.
Minutes later, the Additional Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar Agarwal was also removed. He too was attached to the police headquarters.
The action created a controversy as the decision has been taken when the Kanwar Yatra is going to begin on Monday.
Kumar Gyananjay Singh, posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Ghaziabad, has been made Superintendent of Police of Hapur.
Sources said that not DySP and some junior officers would also face the music soon.
Besides, Rajesh Kumar (II), posted in the Anti-Corruption Organisation in Lucknow, has been shifted as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Ghaziabad.
Though the officials claimed the transfer of SP and ASP of Hapur to be routine, sources confirmed that the action was taken after the principal of the private medical college in Hapur made a complaint against these officials to a very senior leader of the ruling party.
The sources said that on Tuesday, a person called on Dial-112 and alleged that his patient admitted in Rama Medical College and Hospital had been held hostage. On this, a police team reached there. There was a scuffle with the inspector and the management of the hospital over the issue.
It is alleged that the officials and doctors of Rama Medical College and Hospital misbehaved and pushed a sub-inspector. After this information, SP Abhishek Verma sent ASP Rajkumar Agarwal to the spot. He met the Rama Medical College and Hospital management and got the issue settled by making the policeman sit with them. At the same time, no complaint was given in this matter by the person who called on Dial-112. Hence, no case was registered.
Sources said that as the police allegedly put undue pressure and even threatened to take the hospital officials to the police station, they immediately got in touch with a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and made a complaint.
The sources further said that ADG Meerut Zone was asked to submit a report in the matter immediately on Tuesday night and after receiving his findings, the government shunted out both SP and ASP of Hapur.
The sources said that now preparations were also underway to take action against the circle officer and inspector.
Some senior officials, who faced action, claimed that the CCTV footage should be retrieved to find out the truth behind the incident. They denied any misbehavior with the hospital authorities.
