In a heartwarming gesture of inclusivity and commitment to uplifting the marginalized, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday welcomed the children of Antyodaya families at Sant Kabir Kutir — the Chief Minister’s official residence in Chandigarh — for a joyous celebration of the auspicious Makar Sankranti festival. Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator Banwarilal Purohit also graced the occasion as a special guest.
Meanwhile, for the children, this year's Makar Sankranti is expected to hold a special place in their hearts forever, as they found themselves immersed in the warmth and hospitality of the Chief Minister.
Celebrating this traditional festival with the children from the marginalized families once again not only highlighted the Chief Minister’s dedication to bringing Antyodaya into the mainstream but also bridge the gap between leadership and the grassroots.
Chief Minister Khattar’s interaction with the children was filled with warmth and genuine care, breaking down barriers and instilling a sense of pride among the Antyodaya families as he gifted clothes, and other gifts to the children. Notably, this is the first time any Chief Minister celebrated Makar Sankranti with the children from the Antyodaya families at his residence.
To make the occasion even more special, a mesmerizing Bhajan Sandhya program was organized, featuring the renowned Bhajan singer Kanhiya Mittal. His soulful renditions of devotional songs created a serene ambiance, captivating the hearts of both the young and old in attendance.
The event not only celebrated the festival of Makar Sankranti but also served as a testament to the Chief Minister’s unwavering commitment to creating an inclusive society.
The Chief Minister extended Makar Sankranti wishes to the people of the state, saying that according to Hindu culture, Makar Sankranti has special significance as on this day when the sun starts moving north, symbolizing the beginning of the propitious Uttarayan period.
“On January 22, the idol of Lord Shri Rama will be installed at Ram Temple. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for making the atmosphere spiritual across the country from January 14 itself. Therefore maintain cleanliness and beauty in the temples,” he said.
Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta, Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon, Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Rajesh Khullar, Advocate-General Baldev Raj Mahajan, Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur, among others were present on the occasion.
