Hit and run protest : Essential items in short supply in Daltonganj

Wednesday, 03 January 2024 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Drivers' strike in protest against the stringent provisions of 10 years jail and 7 lakhs of rupees fine in hit and run case where the driver flees from the accident site without informing the police, has begun to affect supply of the LPG cylinders and medicines.

One senior HP gas agency dealer A K Pandey said "LPG cylinders have stopped reaching us since December 29. The stock of the filled LPG cylinders is diminishing. If this strike continues even for another 24 hours then there is going to be a major crisis of the filled LPG cylinders here in Daltonganj."

The state vice president of the Jharkhand state chemists and druggists association Dharmendra Upadhayay said there has begun issues with the supply of drugs and medicines following this strike.

He said "We get supplies of drugs and medicines from Ranchi and this route is pretty disturbed because of the strike of the drivers."

There is a similar problem with the supply of the fruits, lemons and coconut here in Daltonganj. Fish comes to Daltonganj from Andhra Pradesh and it comes by roads.

Sources said there is every possibility of black market sale for the LPG cylinders in the coming days.

Sources said petrol and diesel supply too is affected by the drivers' strike. Bikers and car owners are queuing up to have fuel at the petrol pumps.
