Thursday was the day of nomination with several leaders filing their nomination for the upcoming Assembly election. Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren filed his nomination from Barhet assembly constituency on Thursday. He spent an hour with additional collector Gautam Kumar Bhagat.
Later, Soren addressed the media at the main gate of the assembly and said the documentary process was completed for the nomination. Barhait is considered a JMM stronghold. In the 2019 assembly polls, Soren contested two assembly seats—Barhait and Dumka—in Santhal region and won both the seats.
He won the Barhait seat by defeating BJP’s Simon Malto by 25,740 votes, and Dumka by 13,188 votes by beating saffron party’s Louis Marandi. Later, he vacated the Dumka seat.
Soren’s wife Kalpana also filed the nomination from Gandey assembly seat. Kalpana won the Gandey bypoll on June 4 by 27,149 votes, defeating her nearest BJP rival Dilip Kumar Verma. The seat fell vacant following the resignation of JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad.
From Opposition camp BJP legislator and leader of the opposition Amar Kumar Bauri filed his nomination papers from the Chandankiyari assembly constituency, which is reserved for scheduled caste candidates.
Claiming that he would register a comfortable win for the third time, Bauri said that the people of Jharkhand want to change the “corrupt” JMM-led alliance government and form a BJP-led NDA government.
Thursday was the day of BJP candidates. A total of 32 candidates of the party filed their nominations. During this, from Union Ministers to CMs of many states were also present. Doctor Neera Yadav from Koderma, Amit Kumar Yadav from Barkatha and Manoj Kumar Yadav from Barhi filed their nominations. Amar Kumar Bauri from Chandankyari, Pradeep Sahu from Hazaribagh, Ujjwal Das from Simaria, Bhanu Pratap Shahi from Bhawanathpur, Doctor Dineshanand Goswami from Baharagora, Babulal Soren from Ghatshila, Meera Munda from Potka, Purnima Sahu from Jamshedpur East, Geeta Balmuchu from Chaibasa.
Badkunwar Gagarai from Majhgaon, Shashi Bhushan Shamad from Chakradharpur, Geeta Koda from Jagannathpur, Koche Munda from Torpa, Neelkanth Singh Munda from Khunti, CP Singh from Ranchi, Naveen Jaiswal from Hatia, Doctor Jeetu Charan Ram from Kanke, Sunny Toppo from Mandar, Doctor Arun Oraon from Sisai and Sudarshan Bhagat from Gumla filed their nominations. Apart from this, Shraddhanand Besra from Simdega, Sujan Jojo from Kolebira, Prakash Ram from Latehar, Alok Kumar Chourasiya from Daltonganj, Ramchandra Chandravanshi from Vishrampur, Pushpa Devi Bhuiyan from Chhatarpur, Rashan Lal Choudhary from Barkagaon, Champai Soren from Seraikela and Sona Ram Bodra from Kharsawan have filed their nomination papers.
