As Delhi High Court pulled up Delhi University(DU)on the issue of defacing property during recent Delhi University Students Union(DUSU)polls and withheld results, Chief Election Officer of the varsity Professor Satyapal Singh has said properties have been cleaned.
Stating this, he said DU Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh inspected many colleges regarding the matter. He said during the DUSU elections, some committees were formed to remove posters and flexes from the properties. As per the report received, more than 90% of the colleges/departments/institutes/centres have made their campus free from any kind of defacement.
The Chief Election Officer said with the cooperation of the students and the university, the defaced property was cleaned. The Vice Chancellor is constantly monitoring the arrangements. He himself is visiting colleges and departments and inspecting the arrangements.
Professor Satyapal Singh informed that as per the direction of the Delhi High Court on October 23, all the colleges/departments/institutes/centres were requested to take immediate necessary steps for cleanliness and send status report.
He informed that the Vice Chancellor in a meeting on October 23 had noted that the University
Committee on Prevention of Defacement of Property (UCPDP) was constituted in August, 2018. The Vice Chancellor has constituted the UCPDP Committee in compliance with the guidelines of the Delhi High Court. A notification to this effect was issued on October 24.
The same day the Vice Chancellor also called a meeting with DUSU candidates and directed the students to take all possible measures to remove the defacements.
The Vice Chancellor has also directed the senior officials of the University to visit the colleges/departments/institutes/centres and University campuses to inspect the arrangements for removing defacement from public/private property.
The Chief Election Officer said the Vice Chancellor himself, along with senior officials of the University, had inspected Hindu College, Kirori Mal College, Ramjas College and Hansraj College on 24 October.
On October 25, he visited Satyawati College (morning and evening) and SGTB Khalsa College. On Saturday, the Vice Chancellor visited Motilal Nehru College (morning and evening), Ram Lal Anand College and Aryabhatta College and took stock of the cleanliness arrangements.
Professor Satyapal Singh said many DUSU candidates have also cleaned the walls along with their teams and have also submitted before and after cleaning photographs to the election office. Two candidates have also submitted videos of the cleaning.
The Chief Election Officer of DUSU election had deployed teams of 20 observers on 10 different routes in all the colleges/departments/institutes/centres to inspect the garbage in and around the colleges on Saturday.
Those teams have submitted their status report on the cleaning of garbage in the colleges/departments/institutes/centres in the afternoon. He himself visited Hansraj College and Laxmi Bai College to inspect the cleanliness in these colleges. All the observers reported that they found that the garbage in and around the colleges has been removed.
