In a suspected incident of honor killing, a woman allegedly shot her minor daughter to death for loving a man of another community at Harijantola village under Bagodar police station of Giridih district.

The occurrence took place at around 7 pm on Saturday, when the deceased had an argument with her mother regarding her love-affairs with a man of another community. The site of occurrence is situated near Bagodar niche, about 65 – 70 Km from the district headquarters at Giridih. The deceased’s mother, however, surrendered before the concerned police authorities at Bagodar police station and confessed her crime, soon after the occurrence.

When contacted, the Sariya-Bagodar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Naushad Alam, confirmed the incident and said that soon after the incident came into notice, a team of local police visited the site of occurrence and looked into the matter.

“Nothing much can be ascertained unless we completely investigate the matter but the culprit woman has been arrested and forwarded jail this afternoon. Besides, the police personnel have also recovered a country made pistol and a used cartridge from the spot”, Alam said.

“We are looking into all possible aspects of the incident. This is still a matter of interrogation from where the woman got the arm”, SDPO said, adding that the department was yet to get concrete information whether it was a matter or honor killing.

“Actually, the deceased’s mother and other family members were dissatisfied over the love-affairs of her 14-year-old daughter with a man of different community. They had also appealed to her to keep herself away from these activities. But, the minor girl was reluctant in her decision to go with her lover. Consequently, she indulged into hot discussion with her mother. However, infuriated over her minor daughter’s reluctance and rigidity, she lost her sense and shot her daughter. The victim died on the spot”, a police officer said.
