Fraudsters use fake ID of Dr. Ajoy Kumar to scam citizens online

Sunday, 22 December 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

Former MP and senior Congress leader Dr. Ajoy Kumar has sounded an alert against cybercriminals creating fake Facebook profiles in his name to scam unsuspecting individuals. In a press statement issued on Saturday, Dr. Kumar revealed that an imposter has been using his photo to create a fraudulent Facebook ID and is contacting people with dubious schemes.

Dr. Kumar highlighted that the fraudster has been reaching out to individuals via Facebook, asking them to sell old furniture under false pretenses. Concerned citizens who recognized the deceit brought the matter to Dr. Kumar’s attention, prompting him to take immediate action.

“This is a serious issue. Someone is misusing my identity to defraud people, and I urge everyone to remain vigilant. I have lodged a formal complaint at the cyber police station,” said Dr. Kumar.

The cyber police station in-charge has assured Dr. Kumar that the matter is being investigated with urgency. Efforts are underway to trace the individual behind the fake profile, and officials are confident of apprehending the culprit soon.

Dr. Kumar has appealed to the public to exercise caution and immediately report any suspicious communication to the nearest police station. “If you receive a call or message from someone claiming to be me or using my photo to make unusual requests, do not engage. Inform the authorities right away,” he urged.

The incident highlights the rising menace of cybercrime and identity theft, which has become increasingly common in the digital age. Experts warn that such scams are designed to exploit trust, often leading to financial or emotional distress for victims.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of verifying the authenticity of social media profiles, particularly when they involve public figures. They also encourage citizens to enable privacy settings and report suspicious accounts directly to platform administrators.

Dr. Kumar’s experience underscores the need for robust cybersecurity measures and public awareness campaigns to combat digital fraud. As technology advances, so do the tactics of fraudsters, making vigilance and proactive reporting essential.

“ Residents of Jamshedpur and beyond are advised to heed this warning and stay alert. With timely intervention and community awareness, such fraudulent activities can be curbed effectively,” said a party worker.
