Four people walking on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway in Baghpat were crushed by a speeding truck on Sunday morning.
While three of them were killed, one is in hospital in a critical condition.
After the accident, the truck driver fled from the spot.
On receiving information, the police reached the spot and started an investigation.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Preeta Singh said that the accident took place on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway near Lahchaura village in Chandinagar area on Sunday morning.
According to reports, four people were walking on the expressway when they were hit by a speeding truck. Due to the negligence of the driver, the truck ran over all four.
While three people died on the spot, one was seriously injured. He was admitted to the district hospital.
The DSP identified the deceased as Raja (26) and Nanhe (40) of Dehra, Hapur and Akil (40) of Nahal in Ghaziabad district.
In another tragic road accident, a police sub-inspector was killed in Etah district, after a vehicle hit his motorcycle near Natha village on Bareilly-Agra highway, police said.
The deceased policeman was identified as Naresh Pal Singh (60).
Singh was immediately taken to a local hospital from where he was referred to Aligarh medical college hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The police were trying to trace out the vehicle involved in the accident.
Singh had joined the police force in 1989 and was posted at Mirhachi police station for the past year and a half. He was to retire in two months.
