A firing incident was reported at Congress MLA Pradeep Chaudhary’s convoy in Kalka on Friday evening. A man, identified as Goldy, who was part of Chaudhary's convoy, sustained two bullet injuries during the attack. Another party worker, Dinesh, suffered a hand injury.
The armed assailants attacked Congress party’s Kalka candidate Chaudhary’s cavalcade when it was on its way to Raipur Rani. According to eyewitnesses, the assailants fired three gunshots. Goldy, a resident of village Kheri, was hit in the chest and rushed to PGIMER, Chandigarh for treatment after initial care at Civil Hospital Sector 6 Panchkula. Another party worker, Dinesh, suffered a hand injury in the incident.
Dinesh recounted the incident and said, “We stopped on the road due to a rally. Suddenly, bullets were fired, hitting the window pane, Goldy’s chest, and my hand. I couldn’t see the attackers, but onlookers reported two individuals on foot and another on a two-wheeler fleeing the scene.”
Talking to reporters, DCP Himadri Kaushik said, "Goldy was shot while stopping for a drink with companions, far behind Chaudhary's convoy. Several cases have been registered against Goldy in Punjab and other parts of the neighbouring State. We are investigating previous rivalries as a possible motive." Police are analysing CCTV footage, rounding up suspects, and formed four teams to apprehend the attackers.”
Another Police officer said that Goldy, the injured party worker, was a history-sheeter with 29 cases against him, including attempt to murder and arms act violations.
Chaudhary visited the injured at the hospital. Talking to reporters at PGIMER, Chandigarh, he condemned the attack on his cavalcade, calling it an attempt to create terror. "In my 30-year political career, this has never happened. It's a clear attempt to intimidate people," he said.
