EC orders transfer of IPS officer Rajesh Duggal, who is husband of Hry BJP leader Sunita Duggal
Chandigarh: The Election Commission has ordered the transfer of IPS officer Rajesh Duggal, who is the husband of BJP MP from Sirsa Sunita Duggal, and directed that no election-related work be assigned to him till Lok Sabha polls conclude in the state. Acting on the EC’s directive, Haryana Government on Thursday issued the transfer order. Rajesh Duggal, who was holding the charge as Joint Commissioner of Police, Gurugram, has now been posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police at the Police Headquarters in Panchkula with immediate effect. “Further, as directed by the Election Commission of India, he shall not be assigned any election-related work till the completion of the current Lok Sabha election in the state,” reads the order issued by Haryana’s Additional Chief Secretary (Home Department) T V S N Prasad. At the time of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls too, the ECI had ordered that Rajesh Duggal, who was then holding the charge as commandant of the 3rd battalion of the Haryana Armed Police in Hisar, be posted outside Hisar and Sirsa constituencies.
ECI ALLOWS JOURNALISTS ON POLL DUTY TO VOTE THROUGH POSTAL BALLOT: SIBIN C
Chandigarh: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has allowed media personnel on duty related to poll day coverage to vote through postal ballot in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C said that according to the notification issued by the ECI, media personnel authorized by ECI for poll day coverage and other state government department officials can vote via postal ballot under Section 60 (c) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The CEO said that as per the notification, the ECI has notified journalists holding authorization letters issued by the ECI who are engaged in polling day coverage as essential service personnel, along with staff from 6 government departments. These departments include Department of Local Government (Fire Services), the Department of Transport (Drivers, conductors, Workshop staff, Operations staff and Officers posted at Headquarters and Depots at District level), Department of Jails (Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Guarding staff posted in Jails), Department of Home Affairs and Justice (Police officers, Police personnel, Civil Defense, and Home guards), Department of Power (Staff of State power corporation and state transmission corporation deputed at Generations units, Thermal plants, Hydel units (within or outside state), Staff on deputation to BBMB and field Staff posted in Grid sub station), Department of Health and Family Welfare (a) Drug Control Officers working under the Commissionerate of Food and Drugs administration (b) Medical and Para-medical Staff working/on duty on the day of poll. He said that the aim of this is to ensure that no one is deprived of voting due to their service commitments.
Police, Flying Squad seize cash worth Rs 10 lakh in Gurugram
Gurugram: A team of the Gurugram Police and Flying Squad took major action and seized cash worth Rs 10 lakh from a driver near the Gwal Pahari area here in Gurugram, police said on Friday. Due to the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the electoral code of conduct has been imposed in the district. District Election Officer and DC Nishant Kumar Yadav said that the Flying Squad team received information from Police Post Gawal Pahari and Police Station DLF Phase-1 Gurugram that cash worth Rs 10 lakh was recovered from a Uttar Pradesh registered I Twenty Hyundai vehicle near village Gawal Pahari on Thursday. "When the suspect Shailender Agnihotri, a resident of Kanauj in Uttar Pradesh, was questioned about the cash, he could not give any satisfactory answer. The team's then seized the amount and handed it over to the Income Tax Department," Yadav said. He said that the cash would be handed over to its owner only after providing any satisfactory information. Police said the suspect had also installed black film on his vehicle. On which the police has also issued a challan of Rs 10,000 to him as per the rules.
9336 bottles of illicit liquor worth Rs 50 lakh seized in Nuh; One held
Chandigarh/Nuh: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Haryana Police on Friday intercepted a truck transporting illicit liquor concealed beneath planks. One suspect has been apprehended in connection with the incident, said local police. The truck was allegedly engaged in the illicit trade of illegal liquor. The police team discovered and confiscated a total of 9336 bottles of illicit liquor from the truck, estimated to be worth around Rs 50 lakhs, they added. Providing details of the operation, Nuh Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar said that Assistant Sub-Inspector Bhupendra Singh, along with his team, was patrolling near the KMP Bridge on Nuh-Sohna Road. Upon receiving intelligence that a truck driver was transporting illegal English liquor from KMP Road Kundli to Palwal in Bihar, the team initiated a checkpoint operation. Shortly thereafter, the suspected vehicle was spotted approaching, and upon interception, the driver identified himself as Ashok Kumar, son of Aidan Singh, a resident of Dungara district, Barmer, Rajasthan. Upon inspection of the vehicle, 9336 bottles of illicit liquor were found concealed beneath the planks. When asked for documentation, the driver presented a forged bill purportedly from Siliguri, West Bengal to Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and failed to produce any documents related to the seized liquor. The police have filed a case against the truck driver under relevant sections of the law at the local police station. The driver has been arrested and presented before the court in accordance with the law, he added.
