A 75-year-old woman was duped to the tune of Rs 10 lakh by cyber criminals who hacked her mobile, changed the password of internet banking and withdrew two Fixed Deposits of Rs 5 lakh each prematurely.
After committing the crime, the fraudster also sent a message of 'ha...ha...' on her mobile. It took her four days to lodge a complaint about the fraud which was committed on October 19.
Sarita Verma, a resident of Hyderabad, has come to her nephew's house in Green Heights Amaltas Gulmohar, Nephew Yash Johri told that aunt Sarita Verma had some banking work. On October 19, he searched the number of an SBI bank officer on the internet, which turned out to be that of a fraudster.
The fraudster who picked up the call talked to her and got all the information, then hacked her mobile, changed the password of internet banking and withdrew two FDs of Rs 5 lakh each prematurely and withdrew Rs 10 lakh.
Sarita Verma came to know about this fraud when she received a message from the bank. Sarita Verma's account is in the Indira Nagar branch of Bengaluru.
Yash Johri said that it took him four days to lodge a complaint about the fraud committed with his aunt. The next day of the fraud on 19 October, he reached Shahpura police station with the complaint.
The staff present in the police station said that the complaint will be lodged with the State Cyber Police. The next day he reached the State Cyber Police office with his aunt, but the complaint could not be registered here due to the website not working.
The staff told that he can lodge a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Portal. He lodged a complaint through this portal. He got a message from the portal that the complaint has been sent to Shahpura police station.
