Dr Avinash Thakare, Additional Professor, Physiology, AIIMS Bhopal was warded with Best Oral Presentation in Faculty category at 4th International Basic Medical Sciences e-conference (BMSeCON-2023) held recently at AVMC, Medical College, Puducherry. Dr Thakare presented his research work titled "Assessmentof neural respiratory drive using surface EMG parameters of parasternal musclesin three different body positions among healthy young adult".
The team researchers from department of Physiology were Dr Santosh Wakode, Professor and Head, Dr. Rajay Bharshankar, ,Dr.Sandip Hulke, Dr Varun Malhotra and Dr.Rekha Jiwane.
The research work highlights the estimation of neural respiratory drive using second intercostal space parasternal surface EMG activity.
The NRD estimation using sEMG is useful utility for respiratory ailments like COPD, Asthma and Interstitial lung diseases. It is also a surrogate for respiratory load and respiratory muscle pump function.
