The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded an apology from the Samajwadi Party after the DNA test report has confirmed the rape charges against Nawab Singh Yadav, the SP leader of Kannauj.
A report has confirmed that the DNA of Nawab Singh Yadav belonging to the SP matched with the sample collected in the rape case of a 15-year-old girl in Kannauj, the Lok Sabha constituency of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.
The SP had demanded DNA test of the rape accused.
Nawab Singh Yadav, a former block head of the Samajwadi Party, used to manage a private education institute and is accused of raping the minor girl on the pretext of providing her a job.
According to Circle Officer (Kannauj Sadar) Kamlesh Kumar, the DNA sample from Yadav matched with that found in the case.
The sample collected from Yadav was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Agra on August 17.
Superintendent of Police (Kannauj) Amit Kumar Anand said, “The forensic evidence, which was collected from the spot, was sent to the FSL. The report from the FSL has come and rape has been confirmed.”
Further action is underway, he added.
A team of doctors on August 16 collected the DNA sample from Yadav following a court order. The sample was collected at the district jail.
Kumar had earlier said that during a court hearing, Yadav agreed to provide his DNA sample.
“Following his consent, a police team, accompanied by doctors, visited the district jail in Anaugi to collect the sample. The sample was sealed and sent to the forensic lab for analysis," Kumar had said.
The girl’s aunt, who had brought her to Yadav’s college on August 11-12 with promises of employment, has also been arrested in connection with the case.
During questioning, the girl had revealed that she had accompanied her paternal aunt to Yadav’s residence, having been told she was needed for a job there.
A case had been registered under sections of the BNS and POCSO Act.
BJP spokesman Alok Awasthi asked on Monday whether Akhilesh Yadav would tender a public apology after the DNA report confirmed rape by the former block head of the Samajwadi Party and for making factually incorrect statement with the aim of protecting Kannauj rape accused Nawab Singh Yadav.
He added, “Akhilesh Yadav owes an answer to the people. SP is a serial offender in matters of crime against women’,”
Nawab Singh Yadav is considered a trusted aide of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and has also acted as a representative of Akhilesh’s wife and former MP from Kannauj Dimple Yadav.
During Akhilesh Yadav’s tenure as Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Nawab Singh Yadav was reportedly referred to as a ‘mini chief minister’.
