A violent dispute erupted between two neighbours in the old Galla Mandi area of Jehangirabad, on Tuesday, leading to heavy stone-pelting and clashes and armed attacks by the two groups.
The dispute escalated with people waving swords, and both sides armed themselves with sticks. In the fight a woman was reportedly beaten by a group of youths in the middle of the road. Over six individuals, including women, sustained injuries in the incident.
Upon receiving the news, the police arrived at the scene and took control of the situation, deploying a heavy police presence to restore order.
Police Station In-Charge Ashish Upadhyay stated that this dispute was a continuation of a previous altercation between the two parties that occurred two days ago. Following that incident, tensions flared, leading to stone-pelting on houses early in the morning, which caused panic in the area.
DCP Zone 1 Priyanka Shukla clarified that the earlier dispute had been triggered by a conflict over a speeding motorcycle, which resulted in a case being filed against five individuals at the Jahangirabad police station. While three of the accused were arrested, two others remain at large.
Today, tensions reignited due to the absconding suspects. Despite the growing crowd, the police were already stationed at the site and quickly escalated their response by notifying the control room.
Authorities have vowed to take strict action against those seen carrying weapons in the videos circulating online. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, and the situation is now under control.
