Following surprise checks at health institutions a day earlier, the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) on Friday said disciplinary action has been initiated against 20 employees for failing to report for duty on time.
CMHO Prabhakar Tiwari, who led the inspection, later said that show-cause notices were issued to staff members who were found to be negligent. Salary deductions have also been ordered in some cases.
Underlining the need for the timely start of OPD services, Tiwari said it is essential for doctors and paramedical staff to be present at the health institutions at the designated time to provide health services to citizens.
He noted that negligence by staff results in difficulties for patients, who have no choice but to throng the civil and district hospitals even for common illnesses.
On Thursday, inspection teams—including the District Health Officer, District Family Welfare Officer, District Epidemic Control Officer, District Vaccination Officer, District TB Eradication Officer, and District-level Advisors—visited various Community Health Centres (CHC) and Civil Dispensaries in the city.
The inspection focused on the timely opening of the institutions, staff attendance, availability of medicines, free pathology tests, record-keeping, outreach activities, implementation of schemes, and cleanliness at these centres.
