A sweetmeat merchant in the state capital has been slapped with an electricity bill of a whopping Rs 46 lakh after the establishment was found utilising power in excess of the approved load.

The BI Cell of the Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company (MKVVCL) issued the bill to Tilakram Sweets in the Bhanpur area of the city following the discovery of excess load consumption."The establishment has been found to be using a load more than two and a half times its approved electrical connection capacity," said MKVVCL.

The BI Cell team issued a bill of Rs 46,11,694 after analysing the consumer's average consumption and load using MRI data from the LT High-Value Consumer meter, said the power company.

The power distributor said that the action comes amid an ongoing checking campaign on non-domestic and industrial (power) consumers' premises, which is focused on the illicit increase in electrical load. The company has urged consumers to voluntarily increase the load to avoid penal action.
