The Commissionerate police have prepared a comprehensive plan in a bid to combat cybercrimes in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh on Monday said the plan aims at safeguarding citizens against cyber threats while also intensifying efforts to nab the offenders.
Singh disclosed that the police have roped in cyber professionals and specialists from software companies, who would work in tandem with the cops to tackle cybercrime effectively.
“We’ve already brought on board 25 volunteers in the initial phase,” Singh added.
The volunteers are slated to operate in specialised teams targeting various cybercrimes, such as those occurring in the dark web, deepfake web, and falsified social media campaigns. Moreover, their role extends to imparting cyber security knowledge to the police personnel.
“Our collaboration is not confined to local efforts; we’re bolstering ties with police forces in other States,” Singh said.
As General Elections are around the corner, the initiative assumes added significance. The enhanced preparedness would equip the cyber police teams in the twin cities to counter misinformation campaigns and address other critical issues rampant on social media platforms.
This strategic move signifies a proactive stance by law enforcement in leveraging specialised expertise to protect citizens from the escalating threats posed by cybercrime, the DCP Singh said.
