Newly elected legislators in Hry to take oath on Oct 25, Cong leader Kadian appointed acting Speaker

Chandigarh: Haryana MLAs will take oath on October 25. Meanwhile, senior Congress MLA and former Speaker Raghuvir Kadian, has been appointed as Acting Speaker. Governor Bandaru Dattatreya will administer oath to Kadian at Raj Bhavan, a government communication to Haryana Vidhan Sabha said. Later, the 90 MLAs will take oath before Kadian at the Haryana Vidhan Sabha complex here on October 25. The election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha is also likely to be held after the swearing-in of the legislature. In the October 5 Assembly polls, the BJP won an absolute majority with 48 seats followed by 37 by the Congress, three by Independents and two by INLD. All three Independent MLAs have extended support to the BJP.

Eight –day- awareness drive for a Beggar-free city in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Administration on Monday launched an 8-day awareness campaign, inaugurated by Rajiv Verma, Adviser to UT Administrator at the UT Secretariat in Chandigarh. Verma urged the citizens of Chandigarh not to give alms to beggars and not to buy things from children on roads, traffic signals and roundabouts so as to curb problems of begging, child trafficking and child labour. He said donations made at the designated ‘Neki Ki Deewar’ locations would bring happiness in the lives of needy women, children and senior citizens. “The campaign focuses on eliminating beggary in the city and promoting a more compassionate way of supporting those in need. Various departments are actively participating in this drive,” he added.

Tribute paid to martyrs of Indian police forces in Haryana on Police Commemoration Day

Panchkula: Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur, along with other senior officials, paid tribute to the martyrs of the Indian police forces on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day on Monday. The ceremony, held at the Police Lines in Panchkula, honored the sacrifices of 214 police martyrs across the country by laying a wreath at the ‘Police Shaheed Samarak.’ DGP Kapur, while remembering the martyrs of police services, stated that today is dedicated to the brave police personnel who laid down their lives for maintaining law and order, ensuring the security of citizens, and protecting the nation’s unity and integrity. He further mentioned that since the formation of Haryana as a state, 83 police officers have sacrificed their lives in service of the state and its citizens. The DGP emphasized that Haryana police officers are being trained with modern weapons to combat terrorist activities and confront challenges posed by anti-social elements to ensure the safety of citizens and protect national property.

Punjab to implement industry-friendly policies with the advice of industrialists

Chandigarh: Punjab’s Industry and Commerce, Investment Promotion, Labour, and Tourism Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Monday assured the industrialists that industry-friendly policies in Punjab would be implemented with their advice to ensure that they can work without any hassle. Sond, attending a meeting with industrialists as the chief guest at a program organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), said that soon the ‘Invest Punjab’ portal will be linked with the websites of other related departments to make it easier for industrialists to obtain various approvals without difficulty.

Prioritize Employee Safety: Cabinet Sub-Committee Directs PSPCL

Chandigarh: Punjab Cabinet Sub-Committee, comprising Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Aman Arora, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, and Harbhajan Singh ETO, on Monday directed the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to ensure that no hazardous work is carried out by any employee without the necessary safety kit. The directive came during a meeting with various employee unions at Punjab Bhawan on Monday, after the sub-committee engaged in detailed discussions regarding the demands presented by them in its memorandum and emphasized their commitment to resolving these issues. The Cabinet Sub-Committee assured the PowerCom and Transco Contract Employees Union that their legitimate demands would be considered sympathetically.

Minister issues instructions to complete all ongoing development works within stipulated time

Chandigarh: Punjab Local Government Minister Dr Ravjot Singh on Monday directed all Municipal Corporation Commissioners, Additional Deputy Commissioners and Executive Officers of MCs to ensure the timely completion of all ongoing development works in the state. Dr Ravjot also announced to observe a ‘Cleanliness Fortnight’ from October 24 to November 7 across 19 districts of Punjab, including Amritsar, Bathinda, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Mansa, Moga, Malerkotla, Patiala, Pathankot, Rupnagar, Sangrur, SBS Nagar, SAS Nagar and Tarn Taran, on the occasion of Diwali. The goal of this cleanliness campaign is to keep the cities of Punjab clean. He instructed the Commissioners and Additional Deputy Commissioners to coordinate with local MLAs and organizations to ensure the success of the campaign. He also urged the public to support the initiative, stressing that no effort can be fully successful without the cooperation of the general public.
