PSPCL detects 2,075 cases of power theft, Rs 4.64-cr penalty imposed

Chandigarh: In a rigorous crackdown on power theft, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) identified 2,075 cases of illegal electricity use across five zones, resulting in penalties totaling Rs 4.64 crore. The operation, conducted on Saturday, covered 28,487 connections in Amritsar, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Patiala, with Bathinda reporting 527 cases with Rs 1.41 crore penalty, followed by Amritsar with 438 cases with Rs 1.10 crore penalty, Ludhiana 323 cases with Rs 90 lakh, Jalandhar 340 cases with Rs 50 lakh, and Patiala 447 cases with Rs 74 lakh. Additionally, FIRs have been lodged against those involved, and legal action is underway.

 

HP Governor, CM greet people on Janamashtami

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday greeted the people of the State on the occasion of Janamashtami. Shukla said that the teachings and philosophy of Lord Krishna were more relevant in the present context and we all should follow them to lead a successful life. Sukhu, extending greetings and good wishes, said that the philosophy of Lord Krishna enshrined in Bhagwad Geeta had attracted the attention of entire world which was the beautiful revelation of life wisdom and this philosophy had been guiding the humanity.

 

Punjab Governor greets people on Janamashtami

Chandigarh: Punjab Governor and UT-Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Sunday extended his greetings to the people of Punjab and Union Territory of Chandigarh on the joyous occasion of Janmashtami. “Lord Krishna’s life and teachings included the message of well-being and virtue. He propagated the concept of ‘Nishkam Karma’ and enlightened the people about the attainment of the ultimate truth through the path of ‘Dharma’,” said Kataria, while asking the people to celebrate the festival with devotion and unity, embracing values of righteousness through, word and deed.

 

PU conducts PhD exam

Chandigarh: Panjab University, Chandigarh, on Sunday conducted PhD Entrance Test-2024 wherein total 73.55 percent (698 out of 949) candidates appeared in Paper I (Objective Type), and 73.22 percent (700 out of 956) appeared in Paper II (Subjective type). Total four centres were created at Panjab University Campus, Chandigarh. Flying squad and observers were sent to every centre for routine checking and smooth conduct of the test. The test was conducted satisfactorily and no untoward incident was reported from any of the examination centres, said the spokesperson.

 

Mohali Admin welcomes “Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan” ‘Torch Relay’

SAS Nagar: Mohali Administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, on Sunday accorded a rousing welcome to the ‘Torch Relay’ of the third edition of “Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan”, 2024-25, at Multipurpose Sports Complex, Sector 78, Mohali. Accompanied by budding players of various games practicing at Sports Complex, Jain said that through this, government is aiming at transforming Punjab into a leading state in the country in sports as well as to boost the sports culture among the young generation. She added that SAS Nagar district is 13th district of state where the Torch Relay has entered through Kurali.

 

Himachal Seb Utpadak Sangh delegation met Sukhu

Shimla: A delegation of Himachal Seb Utpadak Sangh, led by former MLA Rakesh Singha, on Sunday called on Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and apprised him of various demands of the fruit growers. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Education Minister Rohit Thakur and Seventh State Finance Commission chairman Nand Lal were also present.

 

95-yr-old’s body donated to PGI

Chandigarh: PGIMER’s Department of Anatomy has received the body of 95-year-old Kuldip Singh, a Chandigarh-resident, who passed away on August 22. The body was gracefully donated by his son Major General (retired) PS Mander on August 23. The Department is grateful to the family members for their noble gesture, said the PGIMER official in a statement.

 

PGI’s Dr Savita Malhotra received ‘Women in Medicine Award-2024’

Chandigarh: Dr Savita Malhotra, former Dean and Head Department of Psychiatry PGIMER, Chandigarh, received the National Academy of Medical Sciences ‘Women in Medicine Award-2024’, comprising of a Scroll and a Gold Medal. This is the most coveted award given for excellence in research, making high impact contribution to science at the national and international level, across all disciplines of medicine, surgery and basic medical sciences, by a woman scientist. The award was given at the NAMS conference on “Women in Medicine: Pioneers of Change” held at AIIMS Rishikesh.
