The Transfusion Medicine Department of Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) honored voluntary blood donors and various organizations for their dedication to blood donation on Saturday.
Additionally, an awareness program about sickle cell disease was organized. The event was attended by Dr. Manisha Shrivastava, the Director-in-Charge of BMHRC, Dr. Ruby Khan, Deputy Director of the MP State Blood Transfusion Council, a large number of voluntary blood donors, representatives from various organizations, and patients battling sickle cell-thalassemia and their families.
During the event, speech and slogan competitions were held, and the winners were honored.Addressing the attendees, Dr. Manisha Shrivastava emphasized the importance of being compassionate towards patients coming to the hospital and serving them diligently. She praised the work of blood donors, stating that they donate blood selflessly and without any expectations, which makes their act even greater.
She mentioned that the BMHRC blood bank has been operating continuously for the past 24 years and expressed pride that no needy person has ever had to struggle to get blood. There has never been a shortage of blood in the blood bank. Dr. Shrivastava also highlighted that sickle cell disease is preventable, and even those affected by it can lead a normal life with proper treatment.
The Government of India and the Madhya Pradesh government are doing significant work to prevent and raise awareness about this disease.Dr. Ruby Khan congratulated the blood donors, stating that they are truly serving humanity.
The blood donated by them can save the life of a pregnant woman or a thalassemia patient. In light of this great work, honoring blood donors is a small gesture.
She urged people to ensure that before donating blood, they verify whether the blood bank is authorized, licensed, and how it uses the blood. She also emphasized that the blood bank should provide free blood to patients suffering from thalassemia and other blood disorders
