As a part of an animal exchange programme authorized by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), Ranchi’s Bhagwan Birsa Zoological Park is now home to a white tiger, fox, katas or civet cat, night heron, ibis, grey pelican and mouse deer. The new inmates have been brought from the Nandankan Biological Park, Bhubaneshwa, Odisha to enhance the biodiversity of the City’s animal reserve.
The initiative undertaken will promote breeding and conservation purposes along with maintaining the diversity of animals. The arrival of new members in the park will also introduce a fresh dimension of information and excitement amongst the visitors.
The Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park is the largest biological park in Jharkhand and is known for playing an important role in the field of wildlife conservation, research, and education. As many as 91 species including 41 birds, 31 mammals and 19 reptiles are housed and protected here. The park not only provides protection to wildlife but also gives an opportunity to tourists to get closer to biodiversity and understand the precious heritage of nature.
In order to ensure a safe and favourable environment for the wildlife, various efforts are made and as a result of which numerous animals have given birth this year. These include hippopotamus, hyena, sambhar, chital, kotra, blackbuck, white blackbuck, nilgai, langur and badar. In the bird and reptile category hatchlings of peacock, silver pheasant, golden pheasant, budgerigar, parrot and ostrich, crocodile and tortoise have enriched the park.
Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park remains closed every Monday. However, on the special occasion of New Year, the park will remain open on Monday, December 30 2024 and also on January 6, 2025.
For December 31, 2024, January 1 and 2, 2025, the ticket prices in the park have been fixed at Rs 70 for adults and Rs 30 for children between 3 to 12 years while facility for group will not be available on these dates.
For the convenience of the visitors facilities like visitor shed, arrangement for drinking water, toilet and mother- child home have been provided in the park. As an initiative to bring people of all sections closer to nature and also to promote inclusive tourism, wheelchairs have also been arranged for the specially abled.
