Attacking the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over the shooting incident involving Punjab’s former deputy chief minister Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal in the Golden Temple premises in Amritsar, New Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party MP, Bansuri Swaraj demanded AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal to break his silence and held him accountable to Punjabis across the country.
Swaraj directly questioned Kejriwal and Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, stating, “If the Punjab government cannot ensure the safety of a former deputy chief minister in the Golden Temple premises, how can it guarantee the safety of the people of Punjab? If such incidents occur in such a sacred place, what hope does the common man have?” She added that crimes against women have increased by over 10 per cent since the AAP came to power in Punjab, and the conviction rate in such cases has dropped below 20 per cent. The Lok Sabha MP criticized AAP’s track record on safety and security, stating that the Punjab High Court repeatedly reprimands the Punjab government, its police, and investigative agencies.
Swaraj highlighted an incident where weapons disappeared from Punjab Police custody and criticized Kejriwal and Mann for their silence. She pointed out that on November 18, the High Court sharply commented on the nexus between Punjab Police and criminals.
