Social worker Augustina Soreng from Jharkhand's Simdega district was honored with the Most Promising Individual for Gender Mainstreaming award at the 8th Annual Martha Farrell Awards for Excellence in Women's Empowerment and Gender Equality. The award celebrates her relentless efforts to uplift tribal women and girls, focusing on critical issues such as migration, human trafficking, domestic and sexual violence, and land rights.
Augustina’s grassroots activism, aimed at raising awareness of the rights guaranteed under India’s Constitution, has made a significant impact in marginalized communities. "I am grateful to be here. This award means a lot and contributes to my work," she said during the ceremony.
Her work, which addresses the unique struggles of tribal women, underscores the broader fight for gender equality in India.
