Assembly polls: 9182 personnel to be deployed across six constituencies

Wednesday, 16 October 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

In preparation for the upcoming Assembly Elections 2024, a total of 9182 personnel will be deployed across six constituencies – Baharagora, Ghatshila, Potka, Jugsalai, Jamshedpur East, and Jamshedpur West – to ensure smooth polling operations and strict adherence to the Model Code of Conduct. This announcement was made during a press conference held by District Election Officer  Ananya Mittal and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)  Kishore Kaushal, who outlined the election schedule and security measures for the region.

The deployment of personnel will play a critical role in ensuring the election process is conducted fairly, independently, and without fear.  Mittal stressed the importance of effective coordination between various enforcement agencies to maintain law and order and prevent any violations during the election.

Mittal also introduced the Election Seizure Management System (ESMS) app, which has been launched by the Election Commission to ensure real-time tracking of election expenditures. The app will be used to report the seizure of cash, liquor, weapons, and other contraband by the Flying Squad Teams (FST) and Static Surveillance Teams (SST). This move is aimed at increasing transparency and ensuring that all election-related activities adhere to strict monitoring protocols.

Expenditure Monitoring: Banks are required to report any cash transactions or withdrawals exceeding ₹10 lakh to the Election Expenditure Monitoring Team and the enforcement agencies to detect any irregularities.

Enhanced Security: Checkpoints and CCTV cameras will be installed at inter-district and inter-state borders. FST and SST teams will be activated to monitor the movement of illicit materials such as cash, narcotics, and other valuable items during the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) period.

Personnel Deployment: A comprehensive deployment plan, covering polling stations in both urban and rural areas, has been established to ensure smooth operations across the six constituencies.

During the press conference,  Mittal instructed all enforcement agencies to work in close coordination to ensure a fear-free voting environment. Regular updates and reports regarding the seizure of materials and any election-related incidents will be shared with the Election Office daily through the ESMS portal.

The press conference was attended by senior officials including ADM Law and Order,  Aniket Sachan, and representatives from various departments such as Income Tax, Excise, Railways, and the Postal Department. Together, they discussed the strategic plans to ensure that the Assembly Elections 2024 are conducted smoothly and without disruption.
